I had a commentator on YouTube who built a cat pole based on my design and was upset that their cat would not use a verticle pole. Below is an alternative method for those whose cats need a horizontal surface to scratch.

1. First, skip the step of adding foam and canvas to the top of the pole.
2. Then use another piece of wood the same size at the bottom and attach it to the top.
3. Turn sideways. Done.
